Meridian's Brochure: CD, DVD and FM Sources Meridian built the world’s first audiophile CD player in 1984, and introduced the first two-box transport and converter in 1986, leading the way ever since. Our 508.24 CD Player received more than 25 awards and holds the coveted Stereophile Class A rating. Through Meridian MLP, mandatory coding for DVD-Audio, Bob Stuart is involved at the very heart of international standardisation of DVD. This unique insight allows the engineering team at Meridian to develop stunning optical disc players like the new 588 and 507. We emphasize good mechanical and digital engineering. In all our players, be they of our own drawer design or using a CD ROM mechanism. Jitter, a damaging form of digital distortion arising from time errors, was first described by Meridian in 1981; it is virtually eliminated by our precision re-clocking and FIFO technologies. 75-ohm amplifiers drive long cables jitter-free. |

Our 588 player has 192kHz 24-bit digital converters. Like all Meridian CD players, it uses multi-regulated power supplies, discrete class A amplifiers, and six-layer partitioned PCBs normally found in the aerospace industry. |

596 DVD Player The 596 is a powerful statement by Meridian - demonstrating the superior quality that can be obtained from DVD-Video. The 596 also offers outstanding playback of CD, VCD, CVCD and MP3. Construction is modular allowing upgrade options for audio and video outputs in the future. The 596 uses 5 6-layer PCBs, 9 separate power supplies, the latest surface-mount technology and components carefully selected to optimize sound and picture quality. Video outputs include Composite, S and software-switchable Component/RGB. For home theatre, 596 has an IEC61937 digital output to deliver PCM, Dolby Digital (AC-3), DTS or MPEG bitstreams to an outboard surround processor such as Meridian's 561, 568 or 861. The digital output can operate up to 96kHz 24-bit with patented MHR (Meridian High Resolution) encryption to feed Meridian decoders or DSP speakers. For all formats the data is read asynchronously in blocks using a high-speed DVD ROM drive, checked for integrity then triple-buffered through memory to to ensure output timing is completely independent of disc replay mechanics. A clear open and authoritative sound is ensured by Meridian FIFO dejittering. The stereo analogue output uses 192kHz 24-bit advanced DACs combined with an audiophile-grade direct-coupled output section. The video section uses its own ultra-low jitter master oscillator to ensure independently optimized picture quality. The 596 is fully compatible with Meridian 500 and 800 Series and comes with an MSR Remote. Dimensions as other 500 Series products. |

588 High Resolution CD Player Our finest new single-box CD player evolved from our (Stereophile Class A) rated 508.24, and 800 (Stereophile Class A+). A 5-axis pick-up ROM drive provides ten times better error correction than a standard audio mechanism. Multiple buffers and a FIFO give astonishingly low jitter. The high quality 2 channel output uses 192kHz 24-bit conversion. Optimised for CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3. 588.24 Digital outputs: Precision re-clocked for low
jitter, one coax SPDIF digital, one high-speed EIAJ optical digital. RS232 control. |

507 High Resolution CD Player The 507 is a superb, cost effective, single box CD player featuring 192kz 24-bit oversampling DACs for outstanding performance. This player is derived from the very highly-regarded 506 lineage. It uses a laser assembly optimised for CD, CD-R and CD-RW. 507 Digital outputs: One coax SPDIF digital, one high-speed EIAJ optical digital. Analogue outputs: 2V rms unbalanced. Noise and distortion: Less than -96dB.

566 Digital to Analogue Converter The balanced 566 uses a new true 24-bit, high-resolution, dual-differential, delta-sigma converter. Jitter so low it is virtually unmeasurable is achieved by precision twin phase lock loops and re-clocking. 566 Controls: D1, D2 and D3 select digital inputs; Optical selects optical digital input; Phase toggles absolute phase. Input connections: Three coax digital audio, additional AES/EBU XLR connection on D1. One EIAJ optical digital input. 32kHz-48kHz. Output connections: Unbalanced analogue 2V rms. Balanced audio additionally on XLRs. Noise and distortion: Less than -96dB.

504 FM Stereo Tuner Perhaps because many of us grew up listening to portables or car sets we tend to overlook radio as a rich source of listening pleasure. The 504 is the latest in a long line of Meridian tuners with a reputation for stunning sound quality. It features a dual gate MOSFET input to pull in distant stations, while the matched ceramic filters ensure fine selectivity to cope with more crowded locations. A Walsh function stereo decoder gives remarkable clarity and freedom from interference. The 504 has full remote control and can store up to 30 stations in memory showing their names for your convenience. 504 Tuner Controls: Tune, Mono, Store, Display, Previous and Next Preset, Off. Presets: Up to 30 stations, each with custom label for display. Input: FM 75W unbalanced, 87.5 through 108MHz. Sensitivity: 1.5µV for ultimate quieting. Output: 2V rms. Distortion: Less than 0.2% mono, 0.4% stereo, noise below -70dB. Display: Eight-character alphanumeric for showing station name, frequency, preset number, signal strength and tuning accuracy, or blank. Dimensions: 88mm (3.46in) H, 321 (12.64) W, 332 (13.07) D.
