What is
High Resolution Audio?

The official definition: “Lossless Audio that is capable of reproducing the full range of sound from recordings that have been mastered from better-than-CD quality music sources.” *

Why
does it matter?

When you listen to High Resolution Audio, you are able to feel every emotion, hear every note and experience every detail of your favourite artist's original studio performance.

You no longer need to suffer distracting distortion, unnecessary noise and two-dimensional delivery. Hi-Res Audio provides the best possible listening experience.

MERIDIAN AUDIO ARE THE
PIONEERS OF HIGH RESOLUTION AUDIO

Hi-Res Audio is in our DNA. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to perfecting the path between the original performance and the sound that emerges from a loudspeaker.

To achieve this, every single component of every Meridian product is meticulously selected and engineered to maintain the integrity of the Hi-Res audio signal throughout the chain.

Here are just three of the pioneering technologies that we've developed to enable our products to deliver the most authentic sound possible:

MQA is a technology that captures the full magic of an original studio performance. Using pioneering scientific research into how people hear, MQA delivers master quality audio in a file that’s small enough to stream or download – the days of sacrificing quality for convenience are over. Visit mqa.co.uk for more information.

Uses a complex digital filter to double the rate of samples from the source to improve resolution of the finer details in the record. This means that even with a standard source such as CD using our upsampling technology we are able to significantly enhance the listening experience.

The Hi-Res Audio
Industry Standard

The minimum standard required for a Hi-Res audio product or track requires a performance of 96 kHz/24-bit or above.

Sampling frequency means the number of times samples are taken per second when normal analogue sound waves are converted into digital sound waves.

The more bits there are, the more accurately the signal can be measured in the first place, so an increase from 16-bit to 24-bit also means a noticeable leap in quality.
