Meridian Technologies:
HPA (High Power Array)

In order to provide the option of higher sound pressure levels, multiple loudspeakers can be “stacked” as an array in any of the loudspeaker positions within the room. The loudspeakers in each array are then fed with the same signal as each other, increasing the output available. However, interference between the sound from the multiple speakers causes an uneven response across the listening area.

Meridian’s High-Power Array (HPA) processing technology ensures there is no interference or spectral variation between the loudspeakers. This means that every listener experiences high-quality sound, even at high sound pressure levels, no matter where they are in the listening space.

CHALLENGE

Increasingly large listening spaces require higher sound pressure level (SPL) output from loudspeakers. Traditional approaches to high SPL loudspeaker design sacrifice fidelity in order to provide increased SPL levels.

SOLUTION

Meridian’s solution is to use multiple identical high-fidelity loudspeakers in a stack or array configuration for each channel in the system. Each loudspeaker within a stack is fed with the same audio signal, and Meridian’s High-Power Array (HPA) processing minimises destructive interference between the multiple loudspeakers.

RESULT

Meridian HPA results in minimal interference and spectral variation between the loudspeakers, ensuring that every listener will experience high-fidelity sound, no matter where they are in the listening space.
