The Special Edition DSP8000 is the largest and most powerful of the Meridian Reference Loudspeaker series. It is the ultimate expression of Meridian’s pioneering nature and rigorous, research-led philosophy.

Built by hand in the UK, Meridian have designed and engineered the DSP8000SE to deliver maximum resonance and control. The cabinet comprises of two discrete enclosures with a dedicated bass section and a separate head-assembly for the midrange and high-frequency drive-units. The two enclosures are decoupled from each other by custom spikes and cups. The custom-designed midrange unit and three pairs of horizontally opposed bass-drivers feature anodised aluminium clamp rings to minimise resonance.

Meridian’s zero-compromise approach maximises the capabilities of the loudspeaker’s wideband electronics and its beryllium tweeter, guaranteeing an authentic, lifelike and natural sound. The seismic bass, effortless midrange and high-frequency extension means your music and movies will be brought to life in any room size up to 100m2.

The additional DSP device, used by the Special Edition loudspeakers, doubles the available processing power allowing all audio, including MQA Core streams, to be rendered at 176.4/192kHz regardless of the incoming sampling rate. This increases the resolution, detail and clarity of the sound you hear to deliver a sublime listening experience.

Where to buy

Reference Series

Special Edition DSP8000

Our flagship loudspeaker, the DSP8000SE contains a complete matched audio system, giving the highest overall quality, lower power consumption and the performance of a traditional passive loudspeaker several times the physical volume. Finished as standard in piano lacquer black, our Select finishing option means Special Edition loudspeakers can also be supplied in the colour of your choice. Full-range floorstanding and horizontal centre-channel options are offered, for audio or home cinema solutions.

Bespoke Signal Mapping

Meridian Bespoke Signal Mapping utilises digital signal processing to apply tailored crossover filters that are designed specifically for each configuration of drive units within a loudspeaker.

E3 Bass

Meridian E3 Bass uses specifically designed filters to expand, extend and enhance the low-frequency response of the loudspeaker.

FFA

FFA (Full Frequency Alignment) is a combination of digital filters and delays to correct the group-delay of a loudspeakers. It ensures that all frequencies reach the listener’s ear at the same time.

Q-Sync

Meridian Q-Sync deploys Meridian's multiple “First In, First Out” buffering system which minimises jitter, ensuring perfect timing and improved clarity.

Pro-Active Bass

Meridian Pro-Active Bass protects the bass drivers from over-excursion, ensuring maximum bass output without damaging the drive units.

Pro-Active Thermal

Meridian Pro-Active Thermal monitors the audio being sent to the mid-range drivers and tweeters and limits the overall volume of the loudspeaker if there is a risk of the drive units getting too hot.

True Time

True Time is Meridian's proprietary Apodising Filter that avoids pre-ringing and cleans up the effects of early filters, converting pre-echo to post-echo.

True Link

Meridian True Link is an encryption method for transferring high-definition digital audio over SPDIF connections. It allows secure movement of digital audio whilst ensuring that the SPDIF clock signal can be transmitted with minimum degradation.

Free-Q

Meridian Free-Q is used to compensate for acoustic problems associated with specific loudspeaker placement conditions.

The Special Edition Loudspeakers

The Reference series represent the pinnacle of Meridian’s loudspeaker design and development programme, making them the most advanced loudspeakers that Meridian has produced to date.

Built by hand in the UK, the Meridian Reference Special Edition range feature Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology. This ingenious, yet elegant design means that the loudspeaker enclosure contains the entire system’s electronics including its amplification. In common with the other loudspeakers in the Special Edition series, a suite of innovative Meridian technologies are also built in.

The Special Edition Loudspeakers

Meridian’s goal has always been to reproduce the sound of the original performance exactly, and let nothing else get in the way.

Watch Now

With an ability to deliver the very best from High Resolution sources, including MQA, the performance of the Meridian Special Edition DSP8000 demonstrates why Meridian is widely regarded as the Pioneer of High Resolution Audio.
