Meridian Technologies:
Perfect Balance

The human ear’s sensitivity to different frequencies is level dependent and so at low listening levels, high and low frequencies are perceived as quieter than midrange frequencies.

Meridian Perfect Balance ensures that as the volume of the system varies there is no perceived loss of low and high frequencies, and spectral balance is maintained at all volume levels. This ensures the listener experiences tonally balanced audio at all volume levels.

CHALLENGE

The human ear’s sensitivity to different frequencies varies with the level of the sound source. Therefore, as the level of the sound sources decrease, the perceived loudness of low and high frequencies decreases faster than mid frequencies. This results in a perceived loss of low and high frequencies at low volume levels.

SOLUTION

Meridian Perfect balance applies volume-dependent equalisation based on psychoacoustic equal-loudness contours.

RESULT

This ensures that as the volume of the system varies there is no perceived loss of low and high frequencies, and spectral balance is maintained at all volume levels.
