Meridian Technologies:
Pro-Active Thermal

For a number of reasons, it is advantageous to design active loudspeakers in such a way that the amplifier output power capability can exceed the long-term power handling of the drive units. This can lead to the drive units being driven to thermal failure.

Meridian Proactive Thermal actively monitors the audio being sent to the midranges and tweeters and models the increase in temperature of the drive units. It then limits the overall volume of the loudspeaker if it detects that the drive units are getting too hot. This allows plenty of headroom for boosting low-level audio signals, whilst protecting the drive units against high-level audio signals played back at higher volumes. It also ensures that the maximum sound pressure level can be maintained for the maximum period of time.

Result
