Meridian Debuts its DSP8000 XE Loudspeakers in NYC

Meridian and Apex Technologies recently organised an exclusive event to premier its DSP8000 XE loudspeaker to North American integrators. Hosted at Gilmore's Sound Advice showroom in New York City and dubbed “hair-raising”, attendees were the first to experience the first product to be developed from Meridian’s Extreme Engineering Programme.

The Meridian team – including CEO, John Buchanan; Director of Marketing, Katy Bradshaw; and Director of Sales, Barry Sheldrick – was joined by Ryan Donaher and Jimmy Paschke of Apex Technologies. Presentations focussed on the Extreme Engineering Programme which has undergone a multiyear revamp to ensure the program assists the brand in creating the most extreme loudspeaker ever manufactured, and how it has enabled Meridian to challenge convention, push boundaries and launch products that have created new possibilities in sound.

"While I fully expected the new XE to recreate large-scale music and soundtracks, which it did effortlessly beyond my expectations, I was most impressed with its ability to convey texture and nuance. This is a new level of musicality from Meridian"

Attendees then had the opportunity to sit through two demos of the DSP8000 XE loudspeakers, which had everyone, including Ed Gilmore’s dog, Ollie, feeling the hair on the back of their necks standing on end. One demo was in a large open area that could showcase the loudspeaker’s wide dispersion capabilities, while the other was in a more intimate home theatre room. Both demos had a profound effect on all attendees.

Ryan W from AHT Global commented: “Monstrous, tight, clean, room-filling bass with the looks and brains to fit any décor,” while his colleague, Paul F said: “The best $1,000,000 speakers I’ve ever heard. Wait, what?? They’re $125K. No way!”

Evan Fusco, Vice President at Stereo Exchange said: “While I fully expected the new XE to recreate large-scale music and soundtracks, which it did effortlessly beyond my expectations, I was most impressed with its ability to convey texture and nuance. This is a new level of musicality from Meridian.”
